Guj IPS association passes resolution in support of Bhatt

Ahmedabad, Oct 8 (PTI) Gujarat IPS association today passed a resolution supporting IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt who has been put behind bars after his subordinate officer filed a complaint against him.

A meeting of the IPS association of the state was held today in which a resolution in support of Bhatt was passed, sources in the association said.
The bail plea of Bhatt who had spoken against Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in a affidavit in the Supreme Court accusing him of complicity in 2002 riots will be heard on Monday.
Three IPS officers including Atul Karwal and V M Parghi went to the residence of Bhatt to convey the resolution passed by the association to his family members.
“Three IPS officers came to our house and told us that the association will totally back Bhatt in his fight for truth,”Shweta, wife of Bhatt told PTI.
The IPS officers association also passed another resolution saying that a permanent DGP needs to be appointed in place of in-charge DGP in the state.
“The association has passed a resolution for filling up the post of DGP instead of having in-charge DGP,”sources said.
Chitranjan Singh is in-charge DGP of the state at present.
The association also appointed Deepak Swaroop as the new president.

Gujarat govt seeks SC nod for completing probe against Ashish Nandy – The Times of India

The Gujarat government has requested the Supreme Court to allow it to take to a “conclusive end” the probe into a criminal complaint lodged against political analyst Ashish Nandy for his new newspaper article allegedly portraying the state in bad light.

Gujarat recognized as India’s top blood donor – The Times of India

Gujarat received official recognition as the state which donates highest blood in India, both in terms of absolute number as well as blood donor to population ratio. Gujarat Red Cross was awarded by union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday for its pioneering contribution in the field of blood donation at the annual general meeting of Indian Red Cross Society organized in New Delhi.

The trophy was collected by president of Ahmedabad Red Cross Mukesh Patel who has crusaded for the cause of blood donation for the past four decades. Patel himself is a centurion blood donor, having donated blood 125 times so far.

Guj Congress president’s name also in FIR against Bhatt ???

According to Pant’s FIR, on June 16, he got a call from Bhatt asking him to come to his residence for some work.

When he reached his place, Bhatt told him that amicus curiae from the Supreme Court was coming on June 18 and they had to meet him to record a statement at BSF headquarter near Gandhinagar.

Pant has alleged that Bhatt asked him to tell the amicus curiae that SIT had forcefully recorded his statement. When Pant resisted, Bhatt threatened him and said that there was no need to worry if Pant did what he was told.

He has further alleged that Bhatt took him to meet the state Congress president Arjun Modhwadia at his residence. Modhwadia also assured him that there was no need to worry and he should do what Bhatt was asking.

Pant says Modhwadia told him that Narendra Modi would go to jail in two months and he should not worry.

After meeting Modhwadia, Bhatt took Pant to an office of an advocate and notary near the Gujarat high court and made him sign two sets of affidavits.

If allegation against Bhatt proves to be correct, he could go to jail for 10 years.

Narmada Bachao Andolan: SC slaps Medha Patkar, Aamir Khan?

 

New Delhi, Sep 30: It can be a major setback for social activist Medha Patkar and her NGO who led the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) agitation in Madhya Pradesh. The apex court on Thursday, Sep 29 refused to withdraw its scathing remarks against Pathkar’s NGO. Citing the court’s decision, many started questioning – is not it a slap on Bollywood actor Aamir Khan who actively participated in the protest.

Announcing its decision, the court on Thursday claimed that the NGO, headed by Patkar, acted irresponsibly while accusing the state government of wrongfully grabbing land for the Omkareshwar dam.

Upholding the state government’s plea, the apex in May 2011 had charged Patkar’s NGO over “misrepresentation.” Citing the affidavit filed by NBA, the court also made caustic remarks against Patkar and her group.

However, NBA moved the court following the remarks requesting to remove the remarks. The court, defending its stand, said, “We modify our order to the extent that from the facts on record the inescapable conclusion is that the NBA has not acted with a sense of responsibility.”

The court, however, claimed, “We direct that in future if any case is presented to the court by NBA, it may be treated with caution and care. As in the given case, where the NBA filed an affidavit accusing the state of wrongfully acquiring 284 hectares of land, which on spot inquiry was proved wrong.”
